Discover Das Bierhalle Bel Air

If you're in the mood for a cozy and inviting spot to enjoy great food and a unique atmosphere, Das Bierhalle Bel Air at 119 S Main St, Bel Air, MD 21014, is the place to be. This charming restaurant and pub captures the essence of a traditional German beer hall while offering modern twists on classic dishes. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Das Bierhalle has something to offer for everyone.

From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm, rustic charm. The interior features wooden beams, dim lighting, and large communal tables that create an inviting atmosphere perfect for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a space where the community comes together to enjoy a meal, a drink, and good company. One of the standout features of the restaurant is its extensive beer selection, which includes a variety of local craft beers, as well as traditional German brews. This makes it the perfect spot for beer enthusiasts to sample new flavors and enjoy their favorite beverages in a relaxed setting.

When it comes to the menu, Das Bierhalle Bel Air truly shines. You’ll find a variety of dishes inspired by German cuisine, but with a Maryland twist. One of the highlights is the famous bratwurst, which is made in-house and served with a side of tangy sauerkraut and mustard. The sausages are always cooked to perfection - juicy, flavorful, and with just the right amount of snap. If you’re in the mood for something hearty, try the schnitzel, a breaded pork cutlet that is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It’s served with mashed potatoes and gravy, creating a comforting, satisfying meal.

For those who prefer lighter options, there are plenty of choices, like the German-style pretzels. These soft, warm pretzels are perfect for sharing with friends and come with a variety of dipping sauces. The pretzels are light yet flavorful, offering a great balance between the chewy texture and the salted exterior. Another popular dish is the potato pancakes, which are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, often paired with apple sauce for a sweet and savory combination.

But the menu doesn’t stop at traditional German fare. Das Bierhalle Bel Air also offers an array of fusion dishes that combine local ingredients with classic flavors. The Maryland crab soup, for example, is a delicious nod to the region, while still maintaining the comforting style of a German stew. The fusion of flavors is one of the reasons why so many people keep coming back.

The service at Das Bierhalle is another reason to visit. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure your experience is enjoyable from start to finish. Whether you’re a first-time guest or a regular, you’ll feel right at home as soon as you walk through the door. The team is knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. If you're unsure what to try, don’t hesitate to ask - they’ll gladly point you in the right direction.

Das Bierhalle is also a great place to bring a group of friends or family for a fun and casual night out. They offer plenty of seating, including large tables for groups, making it easy to gather and enjoy a meal together. Plus, the laid-back atmosphere encourages conversation and laughter, making it ideal for celebrations, game nights, or just catching up over good food and drinks.

What truly sets this place apart is its attention to detail. From the decor to the food and drinks, everything is thoughtfully designed to create a memorable experience. Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch, enjoying a leisurely dinner, or grabbing drinks with friends, Das Bierhalle Bel Air offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of Bel Air. • This place is delicious! My mom is from Augsburg, Germany, but has lived in America for 50 years. She has never found a German restaurant that has truly been great... until now! I'm so happy to have found this place! The food is so tasty, and the beer selection is good. The server was super helpful in both food and beer selections. We drove from PA to come here and will definitely be doing it many more times to come here.

  • This place is nice. We were greeted right away. Our server was super nice. Great menu. Food presentation was awesome and the food was delicious. Being Austrian kinda picky when it comes to German foods. We had the weiner schnitzel. Was shocked how good it was. And so glad they used veal. I liked they use paprika in the breading. The crab balls were so good. Just be mindful of the parking lot. Half is permit the other half is meter. Luckily someone left some time and we had change. We are definitely coming back!

  • I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Shelby, Katie, Paul, and Paige for helping make my brother’s life celebration absolutely perfect. During an incredibly emotional time for our family, this team went above and beyond in every way. The service was outstanding — warm, thoughtful, organized, and genuinely caring. Our guests felt welcomed, everything ran smoothly, and the atmosphere was exactly what we hoped for. Thank you all for helping us honor my brother’s memory in such a beautiful way. • I really enjoy Das it is a place we go to fairly often but we have on occasion had some not so good food for the price. Specifically the wings here were dissapointing and small along with not being very tasty for a very high price. Wings are a go to anywhere I go and this was one of the worst around. Most of the time we get really great food and the pretzel is always good but steer clear of the wings. Love the beer selection of drafts I always know I'll have some good beer when I go to Das.

  • Stopped in for lunch, have always been curious about this place. The Parkville one is closer to me, the charm of this location is nice. Two decent sized bar rails, looked to be an indoor eating area as well. Decent sized parking lot but Im sure that fills up fast. Friendly staff, decent menu, large variety of beer. Food was good, thought the onions were cut odd for a sandwhich, they were chunks not thin rings. Loved the creamy horseradish. Will be checking out the Parkville location soon!

  • I visited the Bel Air branch after trying the Parkville location six months ago, and it was an excellent choice! Adjacent to the restaurant is a spacious parking lot, making it incredibly convenient. Despite the bustling Friday evening crowd, we only waited for about half an hour, and the service was consistently attentive. The food was served promptly, and everything was delicious. My personal favorite was the Chesapeake chicken schnitzel—crispy chicken with perfectly melted cheese and a delightful hint of crab in every bite. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Jagerschnitzel. With the Bel Air branch being closer to our home and offering hassle-free parking, we'll definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommended!

  • The corned beef and cabbage here is really good! My husband likes the old bay sausage. The Philly sandwich was pretty good .My kid ate the tenders so that’s a plus.. If you order the sweet potato fries it’s more like dessert. The server Sydney was nice and attentive.

  • Wow, great German food and beer at great prices despite the rampant inflation. Arrive hungry and thirsty because you'll be imbibing and eating uncontrollably. Absolutely try out the sweet potato fries, pretty much every sausage is worth trying and while I've not tried the pretzels (will try next time), you can tell it's a must order. Do not come alone, and be prepared to yell at your friends to have a decent conversation. The place is lively, service is fast and detailed, and you won't break the bank stuffing yourself here for sure.
